TITLE: Choose Friends Wisely 

 

Main Point – Wrong friends can get you locked up. 

Main Verse(s): 

The righteous choose their friends carefully, but the way of the wicked leads them astray. 

~ Proverbs 12:26 

Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers,  

~ Psalms 1:1 

 

(Similar to physical prisons these things shadow spiritual prisons) 

Point 1:  Friend’s influence  

  • Thoughts and Opinions 
  • Attitude and actions 
  • Language 

Verse(s):   

Proverbs 12:26 - The godly give good advice to their friends; the wicked lead them astray. 

 

Point 2:  Choosing right friend is just as important as not choosing the wrong friend. 

  • Support 
  • Motivation 
  • Stretch You 

Verse(s): 

Proverbs 27:17 - Iron sharpens Iron, so one person sharpens another 

Proverbs 17:17 – A friend is always loyal, and a brother is born to help in time of need 

Proverbs 17:56 - An open rebuke is better than hidden love! Wounds from a sincere friend are better than many kisses from an enemy. 

 

Point 3:  How to choose friends wisely? 

  • Pray to God 
  • Jesus is the model 
  • Holy Spirit helps you discern 

Verse(s):   

Proverbs 22:24-25 – Don’t befriend angry people or associate with hot-tempered people, or you will learn to be like them and endanger your soul. 

 

Main Conclusion:  

Wrong friends will lead you into trouble and in the end either can’t or won’t help you get out of it. 

 

In the end - Keep your freedom from spiritual prison:  CONFESS, ASK FORGIVENESS, and REPENT
